“And He began to teach again by the sea. And such a very great multitude gathered to Him that He got into a boat in the sea and sat down, and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land. And He was teaching many things to them in parables�”(Mark 4:1-2).
Also known as Sower�s Cove and Cove of the Parables, this small picturesque bay on the north shore of the Galilee lies between Capernaum and Tabgha. A Roman Road went right past here, making it an ideal spot to preach. In Mark 4, there is a story about Jesus teaching a huge crowd of up to 7,000 people. Fishermen may have also pulled up her to listen to the words of Jesus. At one point, Christ took a boat out onto the waters of Galilee to preach.
“And He told His disciples that a boat should stand ready for Him because of the multitude, in order that they might not crowd him” (Matt 3:9).
Many Christian pilgrims have been fascinated by this account and come here to test the acoustics. The results are actually quite astounding. On a still day, one can sit way back on the grassy hillside and hear someone speaking who appears as a speck by the water�s edge — and you can hear every sound distinctly as if the speaker were nearby!
