Hello, guest

Q: I looked through 9 of the numerous pages in this forum for one with prayers. If I overlooked one, apologies. The snail-pace of my machine tonight made me opt to create this one.

Just watched two vocal artists on TV sing the following song. I hope it is okay to past it here.

Indie

_______________"The Prayer"_______________

I pray you'll be our eyes, and watch us where we go.
And help us to be wise in times when we don't know
Let this be our prayer, when we lose our way
Lead us to the place, guide us with your grace
To a place where we'll be safe

La luce che tu hai
I pray we'll find your light

Nel cuore restera
and hold it in our hearts.

A ricordarci che
when stars go out each night,

Eterna stella sei

Nella mia preghiera
let this be our prayer

Quanta fede c'e
when shadows fill our day

Lead us to a place
Guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we'll be safe

Sognamo un mondo senza piu violenza
Un mondo di giustizia e di speranza
Ognuno dia la mano al suo vicino
Simbolo di pace,
di fraternita

La forza che ci da
we ask that life be kind

E il desiderio che
and watch us from above

Ognuno trovi amor
we hope each soul will find

Intorno e dentro se
another soul to love

Let this be our prayer
Let this be our prayer

Just like every child
Needs to find a place
Guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we'll be safe,

E la fede che
Hai acceso in noooooi,
Sento che ci s a l v e r a a a a a

A: I watched the THREE TENORS on PBS last night. Many years ago in 1990 we were stationed in Hawaii when this concert took place in Caracalla, italy and I discovered the beauty of Opera when PBS televised this program when we lived in California 1991.I was saddened by the death of Luciano Pavarotti and Heath Ledger, who died too young.I hope Patrick Swayze who is one of my favorite actors will survive his cancer.I survived mine.It takes strenghth and courage to deal with life's problems and faith to accept Death.

Today is my one year anniversary on this forum.I've really enjoyed it.

Happy 1-year on this forum Anniversary Panluna.
I just got back from a 3 month work project.

My prayer for today is "Go Habs, Go!"
Habs is short for the French word Habitant.
The earliest French-Canadians were called Coureurs des bois
(Forest runners). Later on, in the 1600, other French-Canadians
settled on the lands in Quebec and were called Les Habitants,

"Go Habs, Go! " is a cry of encouragement the Quebecois yell during
hockey games, to encourage the Montreal Canadians hockey team
during play-off series.

The Habs play their key game in hockey semi-finals.
Most predict the Habs will not will, but, I must be loyal and say anyway :
" Go, Habs, Go!"

10h30

It is raining here in Quebec at the moment.

I just watched the US TV program on the passing of political journalist, Tim Russert.
Godde, please welcome this fine Irish American into your kingdom.
Tim was respectful of all human beings he met.
Tim was a lawyer who became a journalist.
His Sunday morning program, "Meet The Press" was a forum where he interviewed politicians and other news makers.
They say that Tim was the most prepared interviewer and the fairest.
He asked though questions.
He listened to responses.
He let interviewees speak.
He always had intelligent questions to follow.
His interviewing made people be more authentic.

As a human being, he expressed his love and tenderness to all, even to those he disagreed with.

Tim was from a working class family. His father was a city worker who was a member of a garbage collection crew. After interviewing a President, he was at the home of a fellow journalist, who broke a glass, and pitched the pieces of glass into the garbage bag. Tim took his fellow journalist to task and told him that when you break a glass, to wrap the pieces in news paper, so that garbage collector would not cut their hands when handling garbage bag.

So said Tim, son of a city worker, interviewer of Presidents.

Rest in peace Tim.

...Sigh. I watched "Meet The Press" this morning, Tim Russert's program. What a loss is his death... On all channels in the US, all journalists expressed their love and tender feeling for this Irish-American lawyer turned journalist.

Tim, I will miss seeing you at 9h on Sundays.
Sniff, sniff.

A: I think I like praying to God and addressing God as "Our Father" as Jesus stated. He gave no name and said "Your Father knows who you are" So when I really wanted to learn , I stopped following others and got on my knees and said "Father You Teach Me" I don't believe in Religions now.
Jesus also said you could go to the Father and make request using his name . Many Religions also believe you can call upon a Saint or what they consider a Saint. No Church has the right to make a Saint out of any one. I have found a very rewarding prayer life in doing it the way it was stated. Although I had many dreams come true prior to doing that, and I had seen my own spirit in 1972 , I wanted to know more. I prayed that I never became so that I felt I could run off with all the answers to Create a Religion that only causes more problems. I now know that you can not stop and make a proclamation for that growth continues, and may never be to the point of know it all. My prayer is that all stop fighting over Religions , and that all find that Spirit from within.

Hi Panluma.

My rusty exegesis is whisprering that the Our Father is in the most primitive layers of Mark (the 1st written).
It likely was in Mark's collection?

A: Hi, I'm new here. I am on my own spiritual quest for truth. I read and research quite a lot, but I have a lot to learn still. The more I learn, the more I realize there is so much more to learn.

Here's my attempted answer to the above question re the Lords Prayer:

Two versions of the Lords Prayer occur in the New Testament, one in the Gospel of Matthew 6:9–13 as part of the discourse on ostentation, a section of the Sermon on the Mount, and the other in the Gospel of Luke 11:2–4.

Source Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lord's_Prayer
--------------------------------
Since the Gospel of Mark was written, around 70 AD, Matthew and Luke, written shortly after Mark's (c. 80-85 AD), and the Gospel of John (125 AD), it's very difficult to know what exactly was actually said by Jesus, and what was only attributed to Jesus. I have read that only approximately 15% of the New Testament is actually words of Jesus.

Has anyone else any thoughts on the authenticity of the New Testament?

Hi Lxkin.

Welcome to "our" forum.

We are an ecclectic group. Catholic, Irish, Muslim, Protestant, Humanist, Thomasine, some with studies, others with a lot of reading, and others with just a wonderful well of human living experience.

We disagree, often, but we seem to keep the conversation going.
As the father in the parable of the prodigal son says to his eldest son,
we seem to adopt the rule that
" being together" is was is important, regardless of our
different beliefs.

And, as you rightly note, a degree in theology does not mean
correct answers. I can still read and understand complexe
exegesis, but I am now hazy on specifics, as I have been away
from the field of Bible lit analysis for 16 years now.

I thought part of the Lord's Prayer was in Mark.
Was even sure of it... Will have to pull out old
faithful (my Jerusalem brick) (my Bible) and
refresh my memory.

This is a prayer only page, but welcoming someone new
is a prayer of celebration.

So, welcome.

See you on the other pages.

A: "Indeed, the absence of feminine symbolism for God marks Judaism, Christianity, and Islam in striking contrast to the world's other religious traditions, whether in Egypt, Babylonia, Greece, and Rome, or in Africa, India, and North America, which abound in feminine symbolism. . . ."
['She' was first... 'He' came later...]

"The Greek terminology for the Trinity, which includes the neuter term for spirit (pneuma) virtually requires that the third "Person" of the Trinity be asexual. But the author of the Secret Book has in mind the Hebrew term for spirit, ruah, a feminine word; and so concludes that the feminine "Person" conjoined with the Father and Son must be the Mother. The Secret Book goes on to describe the divine Mother: . . . (She is) . . . the image of the invisible, virginal, perfect spirit . . . She became the Mother of everything, for she existed before them all, the mother-father [matropater] . . .

The Gospel to the Hebrews likewise has Jesus speak of "my Mother, the Spirit." In the Gospel of Thomas, Jesus contrasts his Earthly parents, Mary and Joseph, with his divine Father - the Father of Truth - and his divine Mother, the Holy Spirit."

I think that is where that secret concept of the Egg Born came from , in east and Easter Eggs in West.

July 9th, 1980. T'was on that night, 28 years ago, I was a kid, staying at Saint Catherine's Monastery in the Sinai. In the pitch black, I walked out to the bus where the Palestinian driver and guide were sipping tea at desert's edge. I approached. The driver pulled out a stool children sit on and motioned to me to sit. He poored tea for me.

"Are you going to sing again tonight out in the desert?"

"After tea."

"Don't go far. You'll get lost."

" I will not! I can see the li-"

"He knows you can see the lights. He wants you to stay within ear shot so he can hear you."

...

" Well, good night then. Shoukran for the tea."

Silent night
Holy night
All is calm
All is bright
One day maybe I'll be mother and child
Love you already, tender baby and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace.

My boyfriend and I had conceived the previous winter.
I'd lost it.
Months later, I sang my supplication in the desert.
It would take 11 years, but my baby would come.
At this moment, my child sleeps in her room.
I give thanks this night.

A: The ocean of mundane cyclic existence is like an illusion.
All compounded things lack permanence.
Their essence is empty and selfless.
But these naive beings, right here, who do not realize this to be so,
Roam through cyclic existence driven on by the twelve links of dependent origination.
So that all beings gripped in this quagmire of name and form may attain enlightenment,
I must rouse my body, speech and mind to the practice of virtue.

My soul He doth restore again

The Lord’s my Shepherd, I’ll not want.
He makes me down to lie
In pastures green; He leadeth me
The quiet waters by.

My soul He doth restore again;
And me to walk doth make
Within the paths of righteousness,
Even for His own Name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk in death’s dark vale,
Yet will I fear no ill;
For Thou art with me; and Thy rod
And staff my comfort still.

My table Thou hast furnishèd
In presence of my foes;
My head Thou dost with oil anoint,
And my cup overflows.

Goodness and mercy all my life
Shall surely follow me;
And in God’s house forevermore
My dwelling place shall be.

A: "My soul He doth restore again " what does it mean by again ? In order to understand , you would have to know idioms, have eye contact, and see hand jesters . You might even have to know a priestly terminology or double meaning form of a kind.
also "For Thou art with me; and Thy rod
And staff my comfort still." Where was the hand placed ? Is this in connection to the reproductive organs and is he referring to being born again in a physical sense?

Sunday, 7h49, November 9th 2008

Hello Friends.

Being from Quebec (Canada), I live about an hour from the US border.

I am very aware of the news reports leading up to the November 4th, 2008 election night in the USA.

I rejoice, on this Sunday morning, my quiet time for prayer, that the US has elected its first African American president.

This man, son of a social worker, raised in part by his grand-parents while his single mom finished her education, will, I pray, be a good president.

Though his African father was not part of his life, and though citizens of the USA do not want to have a president whose father was African and Muslim, I am happy that President Barach Obama has this mixed cultural and religious heritage.

I continue to pray that the faithful of all religions take the time to study the history of their respective religion and the process by which religious writings came into being. I pray that the faithful of all religions continue to deepen understanding of the mix of politics, and human culture in the forging of religious texts,
all religious texts.

Prayer for this Easter Sunday

In France, in 1789, a Révolution brought instant secularisation.

The part of Canada that is French has lived through a more gradual process of secularisation.

Because those who 'held power' in the Catholic Church were often more ignorant and backwards than the common folk had become, many of the generation born in the 70s were brought by parents that were throwing off (many with anger) the seeming archaic and controling culture ot the Catholic Church.

Consequently, many young people in their 20s and 30s (and even 40s) know nothing, zilch, nada, nienté, rien of ancient writing.

They will study history till the cows come home.
Ask them something related to religious history?
There is a black hole of ignorance.

I pray on this Sunday morning for my countrymen and women to ask themselved what might be the advantage of studying the history of religion and how religious institutions shaped our own local history.

The trapper needs to know where he's been in order to not get lost in the forest.

It is so easy to walk into any history department and sign up for a course.
I pray more of my people will do so.

The most well known Exodus I knew of when I was doing my degree in theology was that of the deportation of the Jew as recounted in the Old Testament.

Later I would study the history of Nouvelle France.
Nouvelle France was a colony of France in America.
It existed from the 1500s and up to 1759.

The British navy began its conquest of Nouvelle France in 1754
at the mouth of the Saint Lawrence Seaway.
The Acadians inhabited the eastern most part of Nouvelle France.
On the map, if you find Niagara Falls and follow that river to the
Atlantic, you find Acadia, present-day Prince-Edward Island, Canada.

In 1755, the Acadian were loaded onto ships and deported.

The descendants of the Acadians are known as Cajuns.
The Cajuns live in the southern parts of the US.

Acadian lore tells of a young girl whose fiancé was deported on the eve
of her wedding. Évangéline & Gabriel and their tragic love story are
featured in songs and stories of Eastern Canada and in the US south,
in present-day Cajun lore.

A movie now playing in theatres refers to Évangéline.
This movie is a Walt Disney animated movie, entitled
La Princesse et la Grenouille (The Princess & the Frog).

In the world on this early December 25th 2009 (00h56), many families are displaced, children are sleeping in strange places they are not used to, missing home, many others are alone, some are away from home, and some sit at home but long for those who are not around.

The following link will take you to a song about Évangéline.
The song tell of her life of wandering to find Gabriel and to hold
him once again in her arms.

As the song plays, visuals show artists rendering of scenes from
the 1755 deportation (exodus) of the Acadians.
The lyrics, in English also appear.

Paul said that we are all 'strangers' (foreigners) on this globe,
we are all deportees, we are all living in exodus.

That we may, through our willingness to listen to the story of others,
become home for one another, is my prayer.

Tonight, I watched a report about George Clouney, an American actor (Oceans Eleven, Syriana...).

He was being interviewed in Juba, a city in South Sudan.

He is using his fame to draw attention to the wish of the South Sudanese to be independent.

Energy ressources are a factor in the potential for grave conflict in this region.

Tonight, I pray that this situation and others like it will bring discussion and collaboration, not war.

Dear God, our planet had so many people on it, fighting over limited ressources. Where is the prophet that will stand up and say to human kind : reduce your numbers! For heaven sake! When we plant a garden, we space the seeds, so they can grow into plants. Where is the prophet who will scream to us from the desert and tell us to get control of our population explosions and implosions !

Dear God. Please send us your prophet.

A: AMEN.....AMEEN

Good mornig Indie,

You are right, but the problems cannot be solved by the uneducated, the poor , and who are mostly have no knowledge of these problems, and adding to that are those who represents the religion [all religions].

The problems can be solved only by creating a world wide body [sort of a new United Nations- for protecting all lifes on this planet] which has the ability to create laws and the power to force these laws all around the world.

7 billions today.....14 billions, 35-40 years from today.....28 billions, less than 100 years from today. That is scary to think about. A child born today, if he lived to be a 100, he will see his grandchildren not having the food to eat and the water to dring, not even the fresh air to breath.

200+ NATIONS, BUT NO ONE CARE ABOUT THE WORLD PEOPLE FUTURE !!!

They can afford to spend billions on arms and war and kiling, and I do not think that they care amuch about the over-population, or hubger, or about the children who die from hunger every day !!!

2009 Military expenditure [IN BILLIONS OF DOLLARS], for the 7 great nations.

USA - 664....CHINA- 99.....U.K.- 70....FRANCE- 67....RUSSIA- 61....GERMANY- 48...JAPAN- 46 .

And there are 15 countries who spend budgets between 10 and 45 billions.

And 52 countries who spend 1 and 44 billions.

1 531 billions $$$ - that is 1 531 000 000 000 $$$ in one year
The total for 10 years - 15 310 000 000 000
.................. 100 years - 153 100 000 000 000
All they talk about defence ?, love and peace !!!!

From 50 years back, The great nations accumulated arms and weapons enough to destroy the whole world, so why they need more?

Cand they start using these resourses for the benefits of our world instead, and turn the deserts into green fields, and power the whole world frem from the sun, the air and the sea ?.

Kuwait, with a population of 2.5 millions live on the water which refined from the sea, they drink from it, and they plant their garden. So can the trillions of the military goes into projects that will turn the deserts into gardens ?.

Of course they will bring the cost and the energy needed, and they will never bring the cost and the energy been used for their military build up !!!

Dear Indie, hope that you agree.

08/01/10 is my 73rd birthday. But we stuck at home, 25 inches of snow, that is too much for me, so we watched TV & a recorded movie "THE GREAT MAN'S LADY", [black & white -1942] , and it is about ' for every great man there is a great woman' sort of.

God bless you.

A prayer for today, Saturday, February 26th

Two days ago, an eleven year old boy asked me what the U.N. was. I had been talking to him about what is going on in North Africa. When he interrupted me to ask what the U.N. was, I was speechless for a moment. I did not know that eleven year old boys could not know about the U.N.

I made a mental note to watch my DVD copy of the movie, The Interpreter, and try to identify a one or two minute clip from the film. I made a mental note to show the boy that clip, and give him a short explanation of what the U.N. is.

Here I am, two days later, relaxing at home.
I put the DVD in my machine.
I began watching The Interpreter, trying once again to understand its fictional story.

The story tells of a U.N. interpreter, played by actress Nicole Kidman. The interpreter plays the flute. She has perfect pitch. She is a linguist. She is amazed by the workings of the human voice. She has the ear of a musician; she has perfect pitch. If a fork accidentally clings a plate or a glass, creating a note, she knows which note on the piano is the note of the clinging she just heard.
Perhaps the note is a B-flat. Perhaps a G-sharp.
To her, the human voice is the most beautiful instrument in the world.

It is similar to what the Montreal symphony director, Kent Nagano, means when he says that the most beautiful sound in all the world are the little, off-key "la-la-la notes" that babies will 'sing' to themselves, between the age of 4 months to the age of 4 years.

How human babies teach themselves to use their voices is a miracle, the greatest miracle of our bodies.

What the human voice can do is a miracle.

…So, I am watching the movie. I get to the part when I know actor Sean Penn's character is going to rush in and stop the interpreter from making a mistake, but I pause the DVD, because I'm thirsty. I get up to go make coffee.

While I pause the movie and am in the kitchen, I can hear the news on Canada's CBC TV channel 40. I smile to myself, because the news announcers are talking about the U.N. also. They are saying that the lieutenant ambassadors for the U.N. are in session today, to decide on what measures can be taken to send the strongest possible message to Libya's guns for hire.

And I think, what a coincidence: here I am, on a lazy Saturday afternoon, watching the movie The Interpreter, a movie filmed in large part inside the building of the U.N. (or a Hollywood facsimile of it, I should say), and while I stop the movie to make coffee, the TV is talking about the meeting at the U.N. to decide on its position with respect to Libya.

My mind wanders to an earlier report on Canadian television this morning. Earlier today I watched a short interview, on the Canadian program called 'Dis-Connect'. On this program, the host, Mark Kelly had interviewed former General Roméo Dallaire. Dallaire shared with the interviewer that he feels that sanctions are effective only in the long run, over a period of ten years or so. Dallaire was a U.N. soldier in 93 & 94 in Rwanda. A film about his experience in Rwanda is entitled "Shake Hands With The Devil".

My day-dreaming ends. I am stirring my coffee. I walk back into the living room. The report on the CBC TV channel about the meeting of the U.N.'s Security Council to discuss Libya is nearly finished. I sit back down on the couch. I put my coffee down. I pick up the remote for the TV and push the 'Play' button to start the movie again.

In the movie, The Interpreter, actor Sean Penn is running up some stairs and enters a room, where the interpreter is holding a gun to the head of a politician who has committed political assassinations. The interpreter hands a book to the politician she is threatening. "Read!", she shouts at him.

The words he reads make me cry. Weep. I've watched this movie before. This scene has not made me weep before. What is different today is that I am thinking of the voices of North African men and women who want to live a decent life. The fact that I too am a voice specialist;
I am touched to my core by the words I hear after the interpreter shouts "Read!"

These are the words the politician reads :

"The gunfire around us makes it hard to hear. But the human voice is different from other sounds. It can be heard over noises that bury everything else. Even when it's not shouting. Even if it's just a whisper. Even the lowest whisper can be heard, --over armies… when it's telling the truth."

Again I reach for the remote and pause the movie. Not to go make coffee. So I can cry.

North Africa, I cried for you today. Wept.

A: Dear Indie,

Thank you for your beautiful words and your wishes, for me and my wife.

Only God knows what is in our hearts. As for me every time you come to my mind I hope that things are going well for you, and I do pray for you. Every time I open my computer the first thing I check is ‘Jesus family tomb’ , and the first name I am looking for is ‘INDIE’, because you are a good freind, and I miss you. You are always in my mind, and always I will pray for you, God bless you.

After the US president spoke about the pre-67 border, came Netanyahu to say “WE ARE NOT THE OCCUPIERS, BUT THE OWNER OF THE LAND, THE LAND WAS GIVEN TO US BY GOD BEFORE 4000 YEARS AGO” !!!???.
The question is ,does it really that God gave the land to some ‘people’ and asked them to kill the other to get it back after 4000 years ? [I will write about this claim later on]

A lot of talk about peace, and many UN resolutions, and many broken promises, year after year the Israeli octopus spreading its arm in all directions, killing destroying and humiliate the people who been in the land for thousands of years !!!. The whole world knows the history of Palestine, and they know that Jesus was born and lived and died in a land called Palestine ‘ not Israel’.

Netanyahu received a lot of applause, and many standing-ovations , and that meant total acceptance to what the Israelis demands are !!!.

It was always the same, and mostly by the previous republican presidents, so we hear now the Israelis are waiting and wishing, and trying to bring another REP. President, and that is the way which been going on for many, many years.

THE WORD PEACE IS NO MORE THAN A COVER UP AND THEY DO HIDE BEHIND IT TO ACHIEVE THEIR AGENDA FOR OCCUPYING AND STEALING THE PALESTINIANS LAND.

This morning I watched President Obama speech in England, and he talked about our changing world, and gave his view on coping with the fast changes in every field, and I think he was trying to get England to stand by his side to solve the Middle East problems altogether.

God bless you

One hundred and forty four years ago today a group of British colonies became the country of Canada.

I have some Irish blood.
I have some Scotish blood.
I have some French blood.
I have Canadian Indian blood.

It can at time be difficult for me to figure out just how I am 'Canadian'.

My French ancestors saw British ships gather at the base of the cliffs near the fort in Quebec City in 1759.

My Indian ancestors saw the French arrive in the 1500s.

My Irish ancestors arrived here in the 1800s.

My Scotish ancestors arrived here in the 1900s.

I grew up partly on another Continent because of my father's work.

Part of my identity is forged by that time spent in another land, away from Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Today, on July 1st 2011, a young and newly married British royal couple was present in the Canadian Capital during the festivities to commemorate the formation in 1867 of the Nation of Canada. The presence of the two young Brits was a source of joy for many Canadians.

Identifying myself as 'Canadian' is something that my passport does for me when I travel, because I was born here.

The world is filled with individuals who feel strongly they are of one 'nationality' or another, Because of my multiple cultural roots, I cherish the survival of more than one cultural tratidion.

That is what I choose to celebrate on this national day of celebration.

I pray that our tiny population in our big land of Canada can be a light unto the world. I pray that the country of Canada can be a place of goodness, where individuals of varied backgrounds can decide anew each day to live together in joy and peace.

Is my prayer.

I'm so free

because I can be me

look at the clouds at play

passing over everyday

inside the sky so blue

immense, spacious and true

I'll be tall like the sky

wide enough to embrace what's inside

just like the clouds passing by

flying high in the grand open sky

everything around me will be loved, embraced and peacefully free

everything inside me will be loved, embraced and peacefully free

Hello Friends.

Tonight I rejoice in thanksgiving as I learn the news that women will gain the right to vote in a country I watched the sun set on from Sharem El Sheck. As I sat on the eastern shore of the Sinai Peninsula, the setting sun at my back, the shores of the country across the gulf lit up in beautiful red, the colour of the iron-righ earth of Saudi Arabia.

May the contributions of smart Saudi women bring new growth to this country, diversity and opportunities for Saudi women and girls.

Is my prayer,

Dear Friends,

In these final days before Christmas, Montreal still has no snow.
I'll spend time with family soon.
I'm being evaluated at work and ask for you prayers that all will go well...

I pray tonight for the children who are suffering because of floods, war, poverty, illness...

Was at a friend's today, decorating a tree.
On the way home I stopped and observed the December night sky.
The winter night sky in Quebec is one of drier air than in the summer.
The clarity of the atmosphere is similar to the dry, night sky of the Sinai.
The stars are more visible.

I sang the song "I wonder as I wander out under the sky".

...A new documentary that aired a couple of days ago presented information on the history of the Saint Nicholas stories.
One is of a Turkish man in the 4th century named Nicholas who gave money anonymously to some children whose parents had died.
He gave them gold.

May the giving of the ancient, Turkish Nicholas who cared for orphaned children give you hope and comfort, and may caring for the defenseless become the goal of all, at all times of the year.

Sam, may you and your family feel the peace of this 'giving season'.

A: Hi Indie,

You mentioned a documentary about St. Nicholas, and that led me to read about him, so, the following is some of what I read:
"Legends and folkloreAnother legend[16] tells how a terrible famine struck the island and a malicious butcher lured three little children into his house, where he slaughtered and butchered them, placing their remains in a barrel to cure, planning to sell them off as ham. Saint Nicholas, visiting the region to care for the hungry, not only saw through the butcher's horrific crime but also resurrected the three boys from the barrel by his prayers. Another version of this story, possibly formed around the eleventh century, claims that the butcher's victims were instead three clerks who wished to stay the night. The man murdered them, and was advised by his wife to dispose of them by turning them into meat pies. The Saint saw through this and brought the men back to life.

In his most famous exploit,[17] a poor man had three daughters but could not afford a proper dowry for them. This meant that they would remain unmarried and probably, in absence of any other possible employment, would have to become prostitutes. Hearing of the poor man's plight, Nicholas decided to help him, but being too modest to help the man in public (or to save the man the humiliation of accepting charity), he went to his house under the cover of night and threw three purses (one for each daughter) filled with gold coins through the window opening into the man's house.

One version has him throwing one purse for three consecutive nights. Another has him throw the purses over a period of three years, each time the night before one of the daughters comes of age. Invariably, the third time the father lies in wait, trying to discover the identity of their benefactor. In one version the father confronts the saint, only to have Saint Nicholas say it is not him he should thank, but God alone.

In my next post I will bring the truth about St. Nicholas stories.

A prayer of thanks for aid workers.

What is humanitarian aid? :

Humanitarian aid is material or logistical assistance provided for humanitarian purposes, typically in response to humanitarian crises including natural disaster and man-made disaster.

The primary objective of humanitarian aid is to save lives, alleviate suffering, and maintain human dignity. It may therefore be distinguished from development aid, which seeks to address the underlying socioeconomic factors which may have led to a crisis or emergency.

Humanitarian aid crosses the barriers of politics, geography, religion and waring factions to give dignity to human beings.

May humanitarian aid workers be respected and protected where ever they may be.

Is my prayer tonight.

Sunday July 1st 2012

Friends,

The aid workers who have gone missing are on my mind. I hope Mr. Bob Dylan will forgive me speaking of him here today, as I have spoken of an encounter, somewhere on this site, of a night long ago;

...I was walking in the Sukhs of East Jerusalem on a summer evening in 1980; I heard a guitar and someone singing Bob Dylan songs; I stopped and went in and sat down.

Later in the evening I spoke with the young singer, a fellow in his late 20s perhaps. He was on a spiritual quest of sorts; singing the songs of Bob Dylan in the Sukhs brought him comfort; it made him feel closer to his heart's desire.

I am reminded of that day today, because I happened on an interpretation of the song "To Make You Feel My Love" (Bob Dylan).

After Dylan's own interpretation of his song, I enjoy Joan Osborn's interpretation, done in 2003 on the US west coast.

I am reminded of the Cain and Able strife.
I am reminded of the on-looker giving water to drink to the man on his walk to be crucified.

I am reflecting upon the strife that motivated the kidnapping of aid workers this week.

Hoping Mr. Dylan will forgive, I paste here, as I think of the missing aid workers, the lyrics of his song, "To Make You Feel My Love".

God's speed, thou faithful aid workers.

Dylan's- lyrics of this very special song :

When the rain
Is blowing in your face
And the whole world
Is on your case
I could offer you
A warm embrace
To make you feel my love

When the evening shadows
And the stars appear
And there is no - one there
To dry your tears
I could hold you
For a million years
To make you feel my love

I know you
Haven't made
Your mind up yet
But I would never
Do you wrong
I've known it
From the moment
That we met
No doubt in my mind
Where you belong

I could make you happy
Make your dreams come true
There is nothing that I wouldn't do
Go to the ends
Of the Earth for you
To make you feel my love, To make you feel my love

The storms are raging
On the rolling sea
And on the highway of regret
The winds of change
Are blowing wild and free
You ain't seen nothing
Like me yet

I'd go hungry
I'd go black and blue
I'd go crawling
Down the avenue
Know there's nothing
That I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love

Dear Godde,

For the wounded and grieving in Colorado I pray that the following qualities of the Super-Hero, Spiderman, will attract the attention of young boy and young men :

Peter Parker, I admire you. Peter Parker, you are my hero.

Peter Parker, you are not afraid to humbly see your own humanity;

you let yourself deal with jealousy, anger, pride, coveting;

you chose to listen to the wisdom of your Uncle Ben your Aunt May and of your friend Mary-Jane.

Peter Parker, you choose patience, longsuffering, forgiveness, empathy, sollicitude, kindness and love of self.

May all the super-vilains of the world be won over by your heroic example,

is my prayer tonight.

Up on the hill
In the old stone chapel
A candle I did light
....tonight

I prayed for you
And I prayed for me
On this lonely,
... silent
night

Oh, brother of mine
If you could find
The peace forgiveness brings
To see you, I'd drive a thousand miles
I'd feel at home, my heart would smile

Dear Godde,

This is Indie.

I come to you humbly this morning to beg that the next pope not be O.
Please Godde. Just look at Céline Dion's family. They went, in one generation, from having 15 kids to 3.

If there is a population that is disenchanted with Rome, it is French-Canadian Irish Canada. Pleeeeeease Godde. Don't let them choose O. We're a nice, quiet little place. We don't want O to become the you know what.

In my land, we are fishermen of fish. That's all.

Thanks Godde. Have a good day.

For those who are missing from the not yet found flight of Chinese Nationals, I paste the lyrics for a hymn sung for those in peril on the sea.

The Navy Hymn

Lyrics by
Reverend William Whiting
and Music by
Reverend John B. Dyke
(1860)

Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep,
Its own appointed limits keep.

Oh hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea! Amen.

Eternal Father, lend Thy grace To
those with wings who fly thro' space,
Thro wind and storm, thro' sun and rain,
Oh bring them safely home again.

Oh Father, hear an humble prayer,
For those in peril in the air! Amen.

Oh Trinity of love and pow'r,
Our brethren shield in danger's hour,
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them where so e'er they go.

Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea! Amen.
