Hello, guest
Name: CanuckChick  •  Title: Dattaswami - ice floe - polar bear  •  Date posted: 05/22/07 15:12
Q: This Dattaswami person has certainly screwed up this message board.

It would be a good thing if we could put him/her on an ice floe and shove it out into the arctic, where, with any luck, a polar bear would eat him/her.

I have no intention of posting to any of his/her topics until he/she learns some message board etiquette.

A: CanuckChick,
He has enlightened me with his Hindu view point.I rather enjoy blogging with him.It gives me a window on India. We can learn from every one.

A: We can learn from everyone, if it's not forced down our throats. Bad manners and arrogance do not a congenial atmosphere make.

A: I don't believe the intentions were arrogant or rude.I feel that he had something to share with us from his culture and he has multiple view points.Hinduism is very complicated and that might be why they get reincarnated so many times because it takes awhile to learn everything.I hope he wasn't offended by my view points.I had hope to travel to India someday and it would be nice to understand the culture and the people.

A: CanuckChick ;
2) Please avoid emotions, which deactivate the brain and suppress the logical analysis. Emotion or anger is inversely proportional to knowledge. Let us discuss at length and in-depth with love and patience and with full harmony to each other avoiding the personal criticism. Let us concentrate all our attention on the critical subject only. I will come to your path if you convince me and the vice-versa is left to your will and pleasure. Every point is a common point and belongs to both of us and we are trying to search the truth by sincere discussions so that both of us shall be benefited by the established truth at the end. One of us will correct his point and such correction is not personal correction. It is only correction of our common point. I am not wrong if my point is wrong.

Similar is the case with you. I am not identified with any point, nor yourself. Both of us are analysing a substance because you say that it is chloride and I say that it is bromide. On analysis we shall find the truth and the true knowledge of the substance belongs to both of us. Neither you are chloride nor I am the bromide. If it is proved as chloride I am not disproved. Only my point is disproved. One should not identify himself with any point in knowledge and should not feel himself rejected when his point is rejected. In such a state only the spiritual discussions can proceed to any length of time and to any extent of depth till we find the truth. If any one identifies with a point, he will never change since he feels that he himself has to change. He is not changing since he is changing a common point and attaining a true point. He changes his bad shirt and is wearing a good shirt. He is not any shirt. If this concept is realised the discussion can become meaningful. Otherwise the debate is a waste.

A: I take it as a sign that just below your post is an ad for "Travel Canada with Great Canadians" with - you guesed it - TWO polar bears pictured.

A: Panluna - My 12:46 post was intended for you.
Let's just say that a man walks up to you on the street and wacks you in the head ten times with a stick. Then he says: "Oh by the way, I'd like to discuss my spiritual beliefs with you." You tell him to piss off. He says: "Oh I see that you are biased, and ruled by emotion, therefore, incapable of intelligent discussion. You must not take the stick wacking personally. If you do, it follows that you must be bigotted against my beliefs."

Might not your animosity have more to do with being stick-wacked than with a predisposition against the wacker's message?

I don't have a problem with this guy's message....just his means of presenting it. He can bite me.

A: Canuckchick,
If any one dare approach me with intentions of commiting bodily harm they would never get off the ground.I believe in self-defense verbally and physically.I'm a patciant listener and i'm willing to learn and words don't hurt any one only evil intentions and actions do.I've visited Canada---actually Victoria several years ago.
And the Hindus have a certain way of presenting themselves through story telling and personal experiances. All cultures tell stories.

A: I love a good story-teller. I have no time or respect for people who monopolize a conversation (or a message board.)

A: CanuckChick,
You are right when you said:
"We can learn from everyone, if it's not forced down our throats. Bad manners and arrogance do not a congenial atmosphere make. "

Tow days ago (05-20-07...philosophy of dattaswami) I gave him similar message, here it is :
"NO NEED FOR YOU TO OPEN NEW TOPIC EVERY TIME YOU COME TO THIS FORUMS.
The philosophy that you want to preach and spread will be better understood if you keep it as much as possible focused on a certain subject, so people can read and understand and give their thoughts and opinion about it before moving to the next one.
There is no need to rush thing. Are you going to bring all your religion and its teaching in few days, and do not leave room for the other to question it ?.
If that is the case , and that is what you plan, then I can say that your philosophy is wrong, just by understanding the way that you bring it.
DO NOT FORGET TO USE THE LOGIC."
Now my question to you, "you think he will understand what our messages means?"
..................
Panluna,
You are a person with good heart, but don't let the good heart of yours lead you into the wrong path. Remember what Jesus said about the blind man, and the w--f and the sheep.
You stated this:
1-He has enlightened me with his Hindu view point.
-------------In matter of fact you were not enlighted, but hooked, you took the fancy bait. Can you tell me what is Hindu point of view you is?. Hinduism is a philosophy, and in any philosophy there is the good part in it, when brings peace, love, understing and so on ( all those came in all religion, Hinduism,Buddhism, Jewdism, Christianity, Islam etc.), but you should know the other part too before you give your complete trust.
The philosophy which brings unlogical stories and make people believe in it as true, is the bad side of any philosophy.
dattaswami did not bring out that part which is the main part of his philosophical belief by itself to be judged, but he mix it with the the other part the good one!!!, WHY?, because it is not logical and cannot be accepted by any standard if it was brought by itself.
The following are taken from ONLY ONE of his many posts (20-05-07)
"THE SUN HAS TWO SONS!"
" the God of death called Yama". (MANY GODS, god for every occasion)

"when you are worshiping the idols, the concepts for which the idols stand should be realised." (that is against the commandmet)

"spiritual knowledge is to be obtained from Lord Siva (Jnanam Mahesvarat..). Lord Siva is famous for destroying the world." (can you believe that? there is any witnesss?.

"when we remember Siva, we must remember that this world is not eternal. Siva lives in burial ground." (this nothing but a creative imagination done by using the philosophic methods.)

Here a short summary to what dattaswami believe as taken from his post:
1- "Yama, the deity of death "
---------he did not tell us who is the deity of life!.

2- "The brother of Yama, Sani (Saturn) is the source of all problems and troubles"
--------is that true? how did you know?.

3- "Yama and Sani are said to be born to the Sun"
-------- I wonder how they came to know that?, that is an imagination beyond any imagination!!!, and a philosophy beyond any LOGIC!!!.

4- "Sani and Yama, the brothers, are the source of problems and death give you spiritual knowledge."
--------source of problems and death, in the same time they give spiritual knowledge?, does that mean the knowledge will come after death?.

5- " Yama and Sani are said to be born to the Sun. Sun represents intelligence and light of knowledge, which removes the dark ignorance"
--------The SUN is a souce of energy, it gives light and heat and it represent what it present, but it won't remove the dark ignorance, the SUN does not create life, (there is no life on the other planets) there will be no life anywere if there is no water. that is a fact.

6- "Astrology says that the planet Sani is the source of spiritual knowledge (Jnana karaka..).”
----------Astrology, WOW. Those philosophers who find all these informations that you brought came by looking at the sky and the stars, there are people who can see the future by looking into the glass or into the sand etc., I wonder if anyone with a clear mind will believe in such a thing while living in the 21st century?

7- “Yama- god of death.”
----------In # 5 Yama "represents intelligence and light of knowledge"!!!. BUT HE GOT ANOTHER JOB.

8- “Lord Siva- destroyer of the world. And live in burial ground.”
----------Lord Siva, live in burial ground (where the dead is buried) that means he is the lord (god) of the death. but,

9- “Yama- the deity of death.”
---------- now we have TWO 'lords', 'gods', 'deities' for the death!!!. is one not enough?.

10- “Yama ans Sani- are the children of the SUN.”
11- “Yama and Sani- the source of the problems & troubles.”
----------- In # 2 Sani the grother of Yama was the source of trouble, but now in # 11 both are the souce of trouble. TWO FOR ONE JOB.
....................................

I rather enjoy blogging with him.It gives me a window on India. We can learn from every one.
-----------Of course we can learn from everyone, but we should be careful about choosing what we learn, because there is the good stuff and the bad one, and the logic shows us how to separate and sort things. Jesus said:
"The things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man."
"All these evil things come from within, and defile the man."
So, when we read what dattaswami wrote we should not accept his words as a source for learning, because it cannot be accepted by logic or reality or science.

"It gives me a window on India"
------------- That is wrong. You don't see India through his window. The window which he open for you is focused in showing you his philosophy, that is all hopping that you might follow.
To see beautiful India and meet its good people, and test their food, and learn about their long history, is to visit that wealthy land.
But If someone cannot afford it then the next best thing is to try read about it (there are a lot of books & and there are many sites in the internet, plus a lot of documentaries programs on TV).

God bless you.

I'm quite capable of making up my mind in regards to what I would want to know about and follow. And if you know anything about my people we don't follow without looking first.I found Dattaswami's post to be interesting.I read yours and every one elses posts and learned something from each ones' view point. And everyone on these posts have either quoted from some religious source or expounded their own opinions.

A: I googled our friend, Dattaswami. It would appear that he's a rather unpopular fellow on several other message boards, due to his spamming tactics. One board asked that he be banned. Another suggested that he be ignored by other posters.

Me? I'm still in favour of the polar bear thing.

A: CC, Ladyhawk,

I leave you guys alone for a few days and you go and get a guru!

That’s the problem with freedom of speech, it’s free for everyone to speak.
The good, the bad, the ugly, and the just plain bizarre.

A: Todd - Admit it....you're just jealous because you missed The Great Enlightenment!
Name: Todd  •  Date: 05/23/07 15:37
A: CC,

No I'm not jealous! I just replaced all the lights in my house with those eco-friendly bulbs.
Man, those things are truly enlightening.

A: 60 or 100 watt?
Name: Todd  •  Date: 05/23/07 16:45
A: 14 watts in the kids bedrooms. 60 watts in the rest of the house.
Name: CanuckChick  •  Date: 05/23/07 17:00
A: Then it would be fair to say that your children are not as enlightened as the rest of the family???

Must go now and attend to some chores held over from the weekend. We had a house full of company for Victoria Day weekend. Chainsaw Boy (my husband) in his infinite wisdom decides it will be a great idea to launch our big ugly boat with the ATV. Drags the thing down to the boat launch and starts to back it in. Boat heavy. ATV not so heavy. Boat picks up speed down incline. Trailer hits the water, boat hits the water, ATV with Chainsaw Boy astride hits the water. Eight feet of it to be exact. And cold. On the positive side, we found out that ATV's can float, and that Chainsaw Boy has excellent sense of humour.

Cheers!

A: Todd,
What happened to equal light bulbs?Where do we buy the eco-friendly ones?
Name: Todd  •  Date: 05/23/07 18:49
A: Considering my son is 4 and my daughter is 8 I hope I'm still up on them, at least till the teenage years, then I'm sure I'll be a dork in their eyes.

Panluna,

The light bulbs are sold at Home Depot, Lowes, and Wal Mart. They're supposed to last for years and save on energy and greenhouse gases.
They're spendie but they will show you the way to true enlightenment or at least to the kitchen.

Todd

PS
CC,

I'm a chainsaw boy today too.....

A: There's free speech and then there's respecting the rights of others to practice their religion in peace. Those who try to convert others seem to have trouble finding the balance between these two values.

How so?

A: CC,

Picture a backyard that hasn’t been touched for 30 years, in Northern Michigan. Trees snapped in half and standing trees that are dead just waiting to fall come a heavy wind. I gutted the house to the four exterior walls last summer and totally rebuilt it all new. This spring has been spent hacking a lawn out of the jungle.

Couple that with buried glass/trash and throw in hypodermic needles and you have my beautiful backyard.
Yes, I said needles. Needles that were not there last summer and five feet from where I was going to put the kids pool.

So posting on the forum has been low on my list of things to do.

Talk about bad timing.

I missed my enlightenment!!!!

A: Todd: I feel your pain.

I know all about reno work. There's a reason it's a four-letter word.

We finished major reno last year and are finally getting to backyard.

Don't have to deal with needles though. We're out in the wilds of Ontario, about 1/2 hour from Peterborough.

Have you considered getting a large, unfriendly dog to discourage the druggies?
Name: Todd  •  Date: 05/24/07 14:48
A: CC,

I’m in a town with about 1,000 year round residents and surrounded by The Huron National Forest.

We have a Great Dane, a Chocolate Lab, and a New England Block Head Lab.

The druggies must have been from the previous owners.

I can not believe that I missed the needles last year. I don’t think I did. They must of came up with the frost this year.

Some of the trash/glass looks to be from years ago. Pop top cans and old whiskey bottles from before we had a deposit law on our cans/bottles.

A: Well Todd you can make a fortune turning in those bottles. My youngest son is stationed in Michigan. We brought our trailor with us and visited him last year.We are planning a road trip to Alaska sometime in the future.
