Hello, guest
Name: tony34  •  Title: Is this theory about dead in the water  •  Date posted: 03/07/07 2:10
Q: I notice that the discovery channel seems to have all but abandoned this story and we are not seeing anything about it in the news.

Was the show so ridiculous that everyone has completely forgotten about this whole deal.

A: Among scholars, it was dead before it aired, their evidence isn't really all that persuasive. This type of thing always picks up adherents, however.

A: see i do think it was persuasive. the patina linking the james ossuary to the others. the symbol above the entrance to the tomb, which was then found on other ossuaries, these combined with the names from the gospels. It needs to be looked at further for sure
Name: KRS  •  Date: 03/07/07 4:04
A: Actually, the archeologist who dug up the tomb is now on record as saying the James Ossuary isn't the tenth ossuary, the measurements are wrong, and that ossuary didn't have an inscription. Another major weakness is their use of a historically unreliable source to identify Mariamne with Mary Magdalene. A few of the experts who were filmed have also indicated that their results were mishandled.

This really seems like one of those cases when something is mass-marketed, because the public won't exercise the same strict scrutiny most scholars will subject the theory to. I don't mind more study on any archeological tell, but so far, they haven't met a reasonable burden of proof.

A: It was not rediculous... we are here talking about it defending our own conclusions. That's all that matters christ spoke in jn 12:32 But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to my self. what is occuring now but that?
Name: slyfoxx  •  Date: 03/07/07 13:18
A: I don't think we watched the same documentary. I watched the show last night and it didn't appear that they were out to prove or disprove anything. they were excited at the possibilities as with any dig or discovery. Is everyone so caguht up in defending their "faith" that you've forgotten what it is to make discoveries?? Remember beign a kid and discovering something new?? Couldn't be explained right away...but it was there. Same goes here....
Name: tony34  •  Date: 03/07/07 14:19
A: slyfoxx the simple fact is is that there is not near enough tangible proof for anybody (other than the people who want to believe it) to take it seriously.

And I think I have to disagree with you when you said that these guys weren't out to create a fuss out of this. If you have at least a junior high education you will be smart enough to realize what the implications of something like this might have. These guys knew exactly what they were trying to do.

They deserve to get whatever they are going to get for throwing a con like this out here on national t.v.

A: Tony, You're an idiot.

A: Lynn that's not going to change the fact that this whole program was nothing more than a bunch of propaganda hogwash.

A: This archelogical finding is wonderful news. It provides physical evidence that Jesus existed as well as several of the key people in the Bible. It does not refute a physical resurection.

If the inscriptions are real.......................then the evidence is overwhelming that this was Jesus' tomb.

Christians should rejoice!!
Name: Tara  •  Date: 03/07/07 19:33
A: There can be no debate that the inscriptions real, Simcha states this in the video clip, they were always handled by the IAA.

A: You can almost SMELL the FEAR of some folks regarding this discovery! What a shame! Jesus said "SEEK AND YOU WILL FIND". We can't allow fear of the unknown to keep us in darkness. Those who can't accept the possibilities of this find should ignore it. Why work SO hard to disuade everyone else who IS interested in the possibilities? hhhmmm.

A: NEARLY ALL OF THE SCHOLARS IN THE WORLD DISAGREE!

How many of you are scholars on the subject? Or did you get your facts from TV shows?

If you had to bet your LIFE on the credibility of this study, would you go with Cameron or with NEARLY ALL THE SCOLARS IN THE WORLD?

LOL I can't believe people are taking this seriously. At least I know enough to KNOW THAT I DON"T KNOW JACK about this stuff and so I CONSULT EXPERTS FROM CREDIBLE SOURCES.

THINK
Name: tony34  •  Date: 03/08/07 0:38
A: You know for as much as you guys claim that christians fail to listen to reason through their beliefs in the bible. Many of you are just as guilty (probably more so) in failing to listen to reason by actually believing in this ridiculous theory.

What do you think it tells you when practically every scholar, historian, archeologist, and person of faith in the world tells you this whole story is bogus.

If you guys are going to accuse christians of not using any common sense by believing what they believe. You guys had better start looking in the mirror.
Name: sadinoel  •  Date: 03/08/07 0:40
A: thank you tony. i feel as though i am arguing against a wall here.

see? Agnostics and Christians can agree on some things! Like this study being BALONEY.
Name: KRS  •  Date: 03/08/07 6:22
A: Tara,

If you're referring to the inscription on the tenth ossuary, Amos Kloner, the archeologist who documented the tomb, says the tenth ossuary did not have an inscription, and he would have the notes to verify that point.
Name: MsGreeneMBA  •  Date: 03/08/07 17:01
A: Yes I agree that this documentary was not done to prove or disprove anyone's belief. It was an archeological discovery.
Name: Tara  •  Date: 03/08/07 19:01
A: This find is not bogus, it is what it is. The ossauries were found with those names, from that time, in that tomb. If you think that it could never be "that Jesus" then thats your own opinion.

Either way all of the findings are what they are, can't you see that. if it is not "thee Jesus" then who was this family in this tomb with unusual symbol.

Or are you now going to tell me there is no tomb and no ossuaries
