Hello, guest
Name: Jazzy  •  Title: Simcha's class, the expert's lack of it, and other things  •  Date posted: 03/05/07 21:48
Q: Most Christians have a grain of common sense. My faith will not end if Jesus had not physically risen. My faith can accept that he rose in a spiritual body. I do not expect God to break the natural laws that he made himself. Personally it would strengthen my faith if the bones of Jesus were found as I would realize that Jesus is not just a story. The majority of Christians realize that the bible has been embellished over the last 2007 years, and are being misrepresented by the radical preachers who say that we take every word from the Bible literally. Most people accept that all the miracles in the Bible have been embroidered, however it doesn’t mean that God is not still creating miracles.
Unfortunately, none of the guests on Koppel’s talk show seemed to realize that the point of the documentary was to bring attention to the finding of the tomb and bones, and to show that the findings should be researched further. There was no need to tear apart Simcha’s every word to try to prove what he is saying slightly untrue. Personally I do not care if the statistics might actually be 599 to 1. That does not mean that the documentary has no merit what-so-ever and should be never mentioned again. I fail to see the logic in this. I wish the audience could hear from experts who are not related to the show, and who would like to study it further. It would be a nice change as opposed to the experts who can only think of porn while watching the documentary. I was glad Simcha had enough class to mention that he is not a regular viewer of that particular pay-per-view channel.
The experts also demanded to know why Simcha had left cliff hanger sentences before a commercial break. I do not see how that affects the theory or credibility at all. They said that it was INTERESTING and GRIPPING (how awful!) . I did not realize that things had to be boring to be true. In all seriousness I hope that Simcha took the statements as compliments more then anything else. It is not a crime to interest the public.
I also found the fact that they tried insulting him by calling his dramatizations “realistic” amusing. I did not realize they wanted to see Jesus being crucified in the middle of a disco club.
I would like to end expressing my deep desire for more study to be done on this topic. I hope that Simcha is not disheartened by the fact that both on Larry King Live and Kopel’s shows he was not well received by both experts and preachers. There are many more people out there who would like to see research done on this topic. I am sorry that the are professionals out there who do not care if there is a chance that the bones possibly relating to someone of Jesus’ family or Jesus himself might have been found, keep being featured on the TV shows. I am sure there are more open-minded scholars in this world. It is a disgrace that people are too busy arguing about nuisances such as whether his dramatizations were too effective ( Should he apologize? “Ladies and Gentlemen I am sorry I am a good film maker…?) rather then looking to see if any of the bones could lead to clues to learning more about the life and death one of the most influential men in the history of the world.

A: I agree with Jazzy, even the Bible states that Jesus came as a man. If anything, Simcha points out this fact, and even if he is right on the money, this should not affect ones faith. We now know that a Jesus, son of Joseph lay two thousand years with his family in a tomb. I would expect nothing less. The real conundrum is not the possible reality that this may be the actual biblical Jesus, but the message that goes unanswered. What happened to Christ's words as originally given? Historians and Archeologists are gaining ground in dispelling the ancient lies perpetuated on the masses by the Christian leaders of the day. Now we need to identify and eradicate the pagan influences that are rampant throughout the faith. If only they had found actual writings by this Jesus, his actual words, his actual message intact. One can wish.

A: Thank you Jazzy - I have been so angry since the viewing of Koppels "interview." It was not an interview, it was a lynching, well planned and poorly executed. I am a Christian & so frustrated by the Religous "authoriites" attempts to fit God in their square box. Why would God deny his chosen Son the pleasure and large part of humanity he was sent to experience by not letting Him marry, have a Child and fully experience the life His Father gave His creation, man? It is proven & continues to be - that man's hands have been all over the Bible, though it remains the "Best" article of recorded history of the Chrisitan faith we have to date to work with. My History book in school stated Columbus discovered America, this too had to be revised as we matured and discovered new truths. Simcha simply wanted these discoveries to not be ignored - prove it or dis-prove it. He clearly stated throughout the film: Make up your own mind, ask questions, get answers. His film has not shaken my Faith, it remains as strong today and it was before the film. If Simcha reads these forums - here is my message to you Sir - Keep up the good works, God is not afraid of the Truth - we should not be either.

A: Jazzy and everyone here, thank you, I couldn't have said it better. I posted this elsewhere, but I'll re-post it here:

I think the whole point of the film was to bring to light a too quickly sluffed over and forgotten discovery, and to prompt further, hopefully definitive research.

For those who want to argue it's just totally a ploy for publicity and money, I think James Cameron makes way too much money on his films to bother with a little TV production unless he felt impelled to send a message - impelled - maybe by Spirit? No one knows that answer but God and Mr. Cameron. Likewise, you can make the same argument with Mel Gibson and his religiously oriented films - is he doing it just for the money or publicity? Or was he moved to get a message across to the public? If you answer yes to one, you need to realize the answer can also be yes in the other case as well.... both are just opposite sides of the same coin.

I have faith that the Truth will always find it's way to the surface, no matter what that Truth turns out to be, whether it's through this tomb or some other discovery yet to come. "The truth will out." And no-one should ever fear the Truth. God moves in mysterious ways, and I believe "that which is hidden shall be revealed."

I applaud Mr. Cameron and Mr. Jacobivici for even having the guts to tackle this controversial but important issue, knowing they would take a lot a flack for it.

A: I was certainly dismayed by the treatment Simcha received by Koppel and his 'experts'. Simcha displayed class and revealed his inherant integrity when he faced their personal diatribes. I was so perturbed by the rude and ignorant treatment Simcha received, I posted my feelings accordingly on the Discovery Forum about the Lost Tomb.
Keep up the good work, Simcha! I am a big fan of your *The Naked Archeologist* I have linked my small Website to yours, which is truly supurb as well as deeply informative. I am very impressed by this Website that is just a well of information. I look forward to buying your book before too long.

A: I agree. He's handled all the interviews so well. It's nice to see intelligent people getting their work out there, people who confidently think independently and who encourage others to do the same. The world desperately needs more of that right now. Simcha, James Cameron, and James Tabor have conducted themselves with class and dignity in every interview I've seen so far (and Tabor on his web site as well). It's wonderful to see.
