Q: I saw the documentary last night, and there is a simple response that should not get missed in the "this is true or not true" debate. I personally have no use for those who blindly "believe" every word of the bible (even those that contradict each other), and don't consider the possibility that at some point along the way they may have been misled by their various churches and religious leaders. You have to be crazy to not consider the possibility that the bible is not 100% accurate after being transcribed 300 years after Jesus walked the Earth. Corruption has existed in every religion. I also have no use for those who believe everything in this documentary as fact.
All this documentary should lead us to is to follow up with further investigation. We have to consider that it MIGHT be true, however unlikely, and that we should take immediate steps to secure the evidence and study this matter in great detail until we can prove it to be false. In my opinion, when your talking about Jesus, one of the most pivotal people in human history, why would we not take the time to study EVERY Jesus son of Joseph ossuary that appears in Israel? Why is that outrageous? Even if there are hundreds of them like they say, who cares? Something of this significance and historical importance should not be left to chance. If there is even a millionth of a percent chance that we may have already dicovered the ossuary of Jesus, it should be looked into.
I don't think it is appropriate to simply say it would be too much work to do so.
I don't know if this is true or not but to just say it is not because some scholars dismiss some of the arguments in this case and that the issue is over is really not very intelligent. What is wrong with further study? What are people afraid of? Would it cost too much? Is that why people just want to let it go? Is it too difficult? Keep investigating and decide if it is true or not when we have more information. If it is true it would be pretty cool (understatement) if it is proven to be not true, it is still a good story and a fun ride. But in the meantime, I need more information. (Factual information based on phsyical evidence)

A: Nothing is wrong with more study. I encourage it. I'm just going after all the people who automatically believe this stuff based on a Discovery Channel Documentary as their only source.

A: Well said, Steve192, thank you!

sadinoel, why do you feel you have to "go after" people who choose to believe what the filmmakers are only suggesting? The filmmakers themselves felt this find was significant but too quickly overlooked back when it was discovered due to all the development in Israel in 1980 (and so many tombs were being uncovered at the time) and hope to prompt additional research into this, and as such, the filmmakers were putting a forth a hypothesis. IMO the IAA did a messy job back in 1980.... and I bet they realize it too in hindsight now. But anything more that can be brought to light would be beneficial, and should not be immediately squelched or shut down.

I don't think that many people automatically believe the film "proved" anything - but it did raise some very important questions, and that's what people are excited about. The mitochondrial DNA test showed Yeshua and Mariamne were not related (at least on the mother's side), which, if these are THE Yeshua and Mariamne, fits; the patina chromatography on the "James" ossuary was such a likely fit with the "Jesus family tomb" patina (compared to patina chromatographs of other randomly sampled tombs) that that evidence is now being used in the James ossuary court case. Important implications that should not be ignored. I don't believe any tests like this were originally run back in 1980. The bones were reburied, the ossuaries catalogued, shelved and forgotten!

Most people are open and desire further investigation of this case, that's all, but I think some Christians - faith aside - do fear the possibility that further investigation might overturn the centuries-old belief in a physical flesh and bones ascension. The truth of a discovery like this - if it turns out really to be, however unlikely it may seem at the moment, THE real tomb and ossuary of Jesus, it doesn't mean the end of Christianity, but just a revision in thinking/beliefs/perceptions.

IMO, the resurrection/ascension may have been merely a misunderstanding by the apostles and disciples of what they perceived as the "body" of the risen Christ. Perhaps it wasn't a 3D body but was only made to appear so, in the form of the human Jesus they knew and loved for recognition and validation of life beyond death purposes. A "glorified" or "transfigured" body doesn't sound like a regular flesh, blood and bones body to me. Why would the Christ - a spiritual entity - need a flesh and bones body in Heaven which is likely NOT a 3-dimensional place like Earth??? This is where blind faith just absolutely boggles an intelligent, inquisitive, God-given mind. Also, how does a Jew, or anybody, in 1st century Palestine find appropriate words of that ancient era to describe something which today or in the near future might be explained by science such as quantum physics or string theory which is discovering the possibility of as many as 11 or 12 dimensions and multiple, alternate universes? Do you see what I'm getting at? It may just mean a change in perception and understanding as to why, because of the limitations of words from an ancient era, one should be careful NOT to take everything written in the Bible so literally, such as a physical resurrection/ascension.

Just trying to raise consciousness of any open minds out there seeking the Truth. Both science and metaphysics, which have been traveling separate paths, may soon wind up at the same destination - proof of our Source of Being, whatever that may turn out to be - and my educated guess is the Source of All That Is, the I AM THAT I AM, and the Source of our true nature (Spirit) - is other than 3-dimensional. It's exciting, awesome and even humbling to ponder the immensity of the implications and potentials such discoveries hold! Let's uncover the Truth!

A: I agree that further investigation is needed. There is a reason why they are trying to sweep this under the rug, and we need to discover why.

A: Sadinoel,

The people that "automatically beleive this stuff" beleive it because the possibilities are very likely.

The people that dont want to believe it have NO problem "automatically' believing Jesus floated up in the air bodily.

What makes more sense? Bieng buried with the posibility of being dug up, or floating away?
