Title: why not further mtDNA testing? of child? •
Date posted: 03/10/07 23:05
Q: I am extremely interested in the reasoning of why no bone tissue was extracted from other 'bone boxes' to possitively control during the Mariamne and Jesus mtDNA sequence comparison (showing Jesus's sibling relationship to Jose for instance).
Furthermore, was it not possible to extract mtDNA in a similar manner form the Jonas's (son of Joseph brother of Jesus) 'bone box'? This could had verified the hypothesis that he too was Jesus's sibling.
And, naturally and possibly most interestingly, was it not possible to extract mtDNA form the child's 'bone box' to verify or dismiss the role of Mariamne as the child's mother?
In addition, were the (video) images of the extra mural inscriptions analysed? And if so, what were the results?
In a scientific point of view, exclusion of these tests and results of such in the movie, allow me to believe that either they were not possible (though would be nice to have heard that), or, more worryingly, that the results obtained were not in accordance with the proposed hypotheses.
Due to my genuine interest in this subject I truly hope to receive an answer to the above postulated questions.
Thank you for a very intriguing and entertaining 1,5 hours.

A: With the exception of the Yeshua and Mariamne boxes (interestingly!), apparently the other ossuaries had been cleaned out too well over the years since the discovery in 1980, and there were no human remains left from which to do any other DNA testing.
They'd have to go back and exhume the original bones, but even then, if the burials weren't catalogued carefully as to whose bones were from which ossuary, they still might not be able to extract DNA.
I think the whole point of the film was to bring to light a too quickly sluffed over and forgotten discovery, and to prompt further, hopefully definitive research.
For those who want to argue it's just totally a ploy for publicity and money, I think James Cameron makes way too much money on his films to bother with a little TV production unless he felt impelled to send a message - impelled - maybe by Spirit? No one knows that answer but God and Mr. Cameron. Likewise, you can make the same argument with Mel Gibson and his religiously oriented films - is he doing it just for the money or publicity? Or was he moved to get a message across to the public? If you answer yes to one, you need to realize the answer can also be yes in the other case as well.... just flip sides of the same coin.
I have faith that the Truth will always find it's way to the surface, no matter what that Truth turns out to be, whether it's through this tomb or some other discovery yet to come. "The truth will out." And no-one should ever fear the Truth. God moves in mysterious ways, and I believe "that which is hidden shall be revealed."
I applaud Mr. Cameron and Mr. Jacobivici for even having the guts to tackle this controversial but important issue, knowing they would take a lot a flack for it.

A: I'm sure the bones and remains have already been picked over with scrutiny by the Israeli government... The Israelis work in private even though they have appeared lax about it... Somebody of standing on the inside has been working secretly on this for many years already and felt it was time to expose it.
