Jesus Family Tomb In the News
Experts Weigh in on Jesus Tomb Find 03/02/2007
Experts are criticizing the Jesus family tomb find, saying that it lacks historical credibility.
The criticism follows Monday’s press conference, during which filmmaker Simcha Jacobovici and producer James Cameron revealed their findings.
Archaeologists have refuted Jacobovici’s and Cameron’s theory, which puts forth that the tomb located in East Talpiot, Jerusalem belonged to Jesus and his family and that ossuaries found in the tomb once held their bones.
Some experts have described the Jesus tomb discovery as “being devoid of scientific proof” and are calling for further DNA testing. Others believe that the names found on the ossuaries are not necessarily those of New Testament figures, stating that they were common Hebrew names during the time that Jesus lived.
