Jesus Family Tomb In the News
Tomb Find Raises Questions, Criticism 03/19/2007
The Jesus family discovery has led to fresh questions and criticisms.
Nearly one month after Simcha Jacobovici and James Cameron revealed their team’s findings at a press conference in New York City, experts are stepping forward to debate the logistics of the archaeological breakthrough that brought the tomb believed to be that of Jesus and his family back to the world’s attention.
One particularly vocal critic has been Israeli archaeologist Amos Kloner, who questions the geographical location of the East Talpiot tomb. According to Kloner, had Jesus and his family indeed owned a family tomb, it would not be found in Jerusalem. “There is no likelihood that Jesus and his relatives had a family tomb. They were a Galilee family with no Jerusalem ties,” he states.
Other critics are finding fault with the fact that ossuaries found in the tomb are empty, which they say limits the archaeological evidence needed to support the Jesus family tomb claim.
