Jesus Family Tomb In the News
Israel Authorities May Open Talpiot Tomb to the Public 02/27/2007
The tomb believed to be that containing the bones of Jesus and his family may be soon opened to the public.
The Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA), the body responsible for the tomb and which first uncovered it in 1980, is considering the move that would allow visitors from around the world to see the potential tomb where Jesus was buried.
While no official request has yet been made, jurisdiction for such a demand would lie with the Jerusalem Municipality. Municipality spokesman Gidi Schmerling stated on Monday to the Jerusalem Post that, if made, such a request would be formally considered.
Currently, the ossuaries believed to be those of Jesus and Mary Magdalene are on loan for display in New York City. The ossuaries were also featured at the press conference held in New York City yesterday, during which Simcha Jacobovici and James Cameron presented their claims about the tomb.
