Seminar to Examine the Lost Tomb of Jesus 04/04/2007
A free seminar exploring the controversial Lost Tomb of Jesus documentary will be held at William Jessup University on April 12.
Archaeologist and Biblical expert Merilyn Copland will host the seminar, which will discuss the findings presented in the documentary. Copland, a professor of Bible and Theology at William Jessup, has participated in excavations of three Biblical sites located in Israel over the period of a decade.
The seminar, which will also include a question-and-answer period, will compare the 1980s discovery of the tomb now known as the Jesus tomb with Biblical descriptions of the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea and first century burial customs. Copland argues that the Jesus tomb is not consistent with Biblical depictions of the tomb of Jesus or first century Jewish burial practices common during Jesus’ time and so therefore the East Talpiot tomb cannot be that of Jesus and his family.
The University was founded in 1939 by William Jessup and in 2004 moved to Rocklin, California. The private university provides degrees in such programs as Christian Education and Pastoral Ministry.
